Construction work has started on Vista, Sheffield

Builders have broken ground on the Vista project on a narrow plot sandwiched between Pond Street and Flat Street, near the bus station in the city centre.

Construction was supposed to start at the beginning of 2020, with students moving in before the start of the 2021 academic year.

Now, Mount Property Group say it will be ready for the year after. The flats have just been launched for sale to investors.

Michael Chrysokhou, managing director of Mount Property Group, said: “Despite the short term challenges that operators are currently facing, it is widely accepted that the student accommodation market has the long term resilience to weather the storm, owing to the resilience of UK higher education market and the accommodation that supports it.”

It will be 16-storeys with 241 beds - 228 en-suite rooms and 13 studios – and a study lounge, coffee shop and bike store on the ground floor.

Barry Horne, director at Clancy Consulting, which is providing civil and structural engineering design services on the project, said: "Having graduated from Sheffield University myself, I’m thrilled to be involved with this new development, which supports Sheffield's buoyant student living market and will create a high-quality 'home from home' for students.”

The Vista site is next to the Sheffield Hallam Institute of Arts building on Pond Street which was redeveloped by Landland Estates.
